India has unveiled a comprehensive strategy to guide its global engagement in quantum science, aligning with the United Nations’ (UN) designation of 2025 as the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology. The announcement, made on World Quantum Day, underscores India’s ambition to shape international dialogue and cooperation in the rapidly evolving field of quantum technologies. The new framework, titled the International Technology Engagement Strategy for Quantum, was introduced by the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India.

India launches global strategy for quantum tech leadership

The initiative is designed to support collaboration with global stakeholders and synchronize efforts with India’s National Quantum Mission, an ambitious program aimed at advancing domestic quantum capabilities across multiple sectors. Ajay Kumar Sood, India’s Principal Scientific Adviser, stated that the strategy serves as a foundational guide for both national and international entities looking to contribute to or align with India’s quantum ambitions. According to Sood, India intends to play a key role in the global standardization of quantum technologies, ensuring its contributions influence the development of international norms and technical frameworks.

Quantum science has become a central focus of innovation, with potential applications spanning healthcare, computing, logistics, and secure communications. By promoting this strategy on World Quantum Day, India is signaling its readiness to take a leadership position in this transformative field throughout the UN-designated year. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, India has significantly expanded its investment in frontier technologies, including quantum research, artificial intelligence (AI), and semiconductor manufacturing.

The National Quantum Mission, backed by substantial funding, is part of a broader vision to position India as a global technology hub. In addition to research infrastructure, the government has launched initiatives to boost education and skill development in quantum science, fostering a pipeline of specialized talent. The Modi administration has also promoted international technology cooperation through bilateral agreements and participation in multilateral forums. These efforts reflect a strategic objective to strengthen India’s influence in setting global standards and to attract foreign partnerships in high-technology sectors.

The launch of the International Technology Engagement Strategy for Quantum further reinforces this approach, projecting India as a proactive and responsible participant in shaping the future of science and innovation. The United Nations  Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization emphasized the global importance of quantum breakthroughs, highlighting their capacity to reshape understanding of the universe and unlock novel technological frontiers.

The International Year of Quantum Science and Technology is expected to catalyze research cooperation and public awareness initiatives around the world. India’s strategic release reflects a broader push to integrate with and influence the global science and technology ecosystem, particularly in areas of frontier research. With the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology now officially underway, India’s proactive positioning marks a significant step in its bid to shape the future of this next-generation scientific domain. – By MENA Newswire News Desk.
